ByteLegion is a hosting platform specialised in vacation-rental websites. I built the business end to end: from the Ubuntu infrastructure and automated WordPress provisioning to Cloudflare configuration, performance monitoring and revenue forecasting. Over the past year it grew revenue by 30% while keeping most repetitive operational tasks automated.
Working with vacation-rental businesses, I kept seeing the same pattern: their websites were commercially important, but the infrastructure behind them was fragmented. Hosting, WordPress setup, DNS configuration, billing and onboarding each required separate tools and repeated manual work. I wanted a service where the customer buys a plan and most of the technical setup happens automatically.
WHMCS acts as the commercial and provisioning layer. When a customer purchases a package, the order triggers a workflow that creates the hosting account in Plesk, deploys a predefined WordPress installation and prepares the environment for the new website: purchase → WHMCS → Plesk → WordPress → Cloudflare.
ByteLegion runs on an Ubuntu VPS I configured and optimised for WordPress workloads. Plesk manages individual hosting environments, while WHMCS handles plans, subscriptions, billing and provisioning. Owning the infrastructure gave me far more control over performance, server configuration and the economics of the service than reselling third-party hosting.
Each new domain also needed a Cloudflare zone pointed at the right infrastructure. With AI-assisted development I built a script that talks to the Cloudflare API: when a package is activated, the automation creates the zone and generates the required DNS records. A repetitive technical task became part of the product workflow.
AI is not a feature bolted on top of ByteLegion — I use it as an operational accelerator across the business, to design, develop and maintain scripts for provisioning, API integrations, DNS, troubleshooting, monitoring and analytics. The value is not faster coding: it keeps a relatively sophisticated hosting operation manageable without an operations team.
I designed and developed an internal dashboard connected to Stripe and WHMCS through their APIs. It aggregates live customer and revenue data, tracks churn and calculates projected monthly revenue, with a forecasting model where I set expected new accounts per month and immediately see how acquisition scenarios affect future revenue.
ByteLegion grew its revenue by 30% over the past year. More importantly, it was designed so revenue can grow without operational effort growing at the same rate. Provisioning, DNS, billing and much of the reporting layer are automated.
There was no clean boundary between design and engineering. Every UX decision affected operations, every technical choice affected the customer experience, and every automation affected the economics of the business. Design, engineering and business work best when they are treated as one system.
